We have landed in Japan and I’m basically blogging from the future.
We’ve been here for about five days now and it is amazing. We’ve already eaten a ton of delicious Japanese foods and tried unexpected jelly filled drinks from one of the many vending machines scattered around town. We took a train to Yokohama and spent the day exploring. Next weekend, we have plans to take the Shinkansen (bullet train) to Osaka. I plan to take tons of photos and blog about all of it!
Today, I wanted to take the time to write about our flight to Narita because it was my first international flight ever! It was also the best flight I have ever been on. I am now very spoiled and expect every flight to be as nice as this one was!
The day before we left, we realized Delta switched our seats and we weren’t sitting next to each other anymore. Crap. Luckily, when we called they upgraded us to the exit row. We had so much leg room. Almost too much. I had to unbuckle my seat belt just to reach the TV screen! Along with the extra leg room, we were welcomed to our seat with pillows, blankets, and slippers. Then the flight attendants came by with moist towelettes, headphones, ear plugs, eye masks, toothbrushes, and toothpastes. WHAT!? I’m spoiled y’all.
I was so excited that I didn’t sleep a wink on the plane. Which I heavily regretted later on in the travel day, but at least I didn’t miss any opportunities to get more free wine. We had a great lunch which came in the cutest packages. I had the beef teriyaki with a salad, shrimp, cheese, and a brownie. Then they provided a tiny cup of Ben & Jerry’s!! I was so surprised. There was also a small hot pocket and fruit for our “breakfast”. It was actually about 8pm Seattle time. And I can’t forget that they came by every half hour with drinks. I think I had a couple cups of wine, champagne, soda, water, and coffee. I’m still excited about it.
It felt like the plane ride took all of three hours. It went by so quickly between the free movies and wine. That being said, once we arrived in Japan we had to take a 2 hour train to our actual home in Yokosuka. It felt like it took days. We landed at about 3pm but once we were actually on the train it was dark so we couldn’t see any of Japan. The next morning we woke up at 3:30am, very confused.
We have a studio apartment here that overlooks Spencer’s job site. It’s been sunny most of the days and cold. I can’t wait to show y’all more of this beautiful country!
Mt. Rainier showing off before we left.
Look at that leg room!
Delta swag. I wore the oversized slippers the whole flight.
Our first look at Japan!
I have fallen in love with the art of calligraphy! I’m doing more and more every day.
First Japanese grocery haul!
Vending machines are EVERYWHERE. They dispense cold and hot drinks!
Our first time trying a Chu-hi!! The most delicious (and crazy strong) fruity alcoholic drink.
